What is a Project information questionnaire?

A project information questionnaire is a tool for collecting project information from the client's end. Architects and engineers often use this tool to collect client information. 

The questionnaire has questions that are either open-ended or close-ended or a combination to elicit stakeholder responses. 

While some clients complete the questionnaire independently, others prefer to fill it out with architects and engineers. The questionnaire forms the first step to creating the User Requirement Specifications.

A questionnaire is useful when it is in the hands of the right people. If the wrong person fills in the client the information shall mislead the entire project team. 


The client may need help filling in ambiguous questions. Sometimes, the answers provided may not be accurate. 

How should a questionnaire be filled?


A project questionnaire is best filled across the table with the project stakeholders. There is a lot of clarity when the questionnaire is filled this way. Architects and engineers can also participate in the meeting. 


Contents of the project information questionnaire contain? 


A project questionnaire format has the client's name, location, and project type. It also includes: 


  1. Size and area of the Plot
  2. Whether a contour survey and geotechnical survey are available
  3. Sizes of individual buildings like Admin block, production block, utility block, welfare block etc. 
  4. Details about each block like area, size, number of cabins, usage, occupancy etc.
  5. Factory Block: regarding the tentative dimensions or area of the building, Height requirements, 
  6. Utility requirements: Electrical load details, information on mechanical utilities like raw water, compressed air, chiller, HVAC, Steam, Boiler,
  7. Site infrastructure: Perimeter protection, roads, culvert, rainwater harvesting, parking, and stormwater drains. 

To conclude, a project questionnaire can be a valuable tool for getting project inputs, especially if collected from the correct stakeholders.
