Factory Flooring Is One of the Most Important Elements

What is meant by flooring?

Flooring is the permanent covering of a floor. Flooring forms an integral part of any building. Floors must be to suit the project requirements- hence, civil consultants must design accordingly. Also, as this is a single large component of the building, it should be aesthetically appealing to the eyes.

Usually, flooring doesn’t get the attention it deserves. The flooring bears the footfalls, material movement and, any material fall/ spillages, etc. Hence, it should be adequately designed. Civil consultants have to design the industrial flooring properly and ensure a quality floor.

Why is the necessity of a quality flooring?

A few reasons why the flooring should be of good quality are:

  1. Flooring has an aesthetic impact. It is one of the things that visitors notice when entering the building.
  2. Flooring has a significant cost impact.
  3. The flooring differs based on the functionality of the area.
  4. While designing, the wear and tear have to be considered. An improperly designed/ constructed floor starts chipping off after a few years, causing a sore eye and a risk to the workforce.
  5. The flooring has to be created based on the activities planned on the shop floor.
  6. One of the important reasons for having a quality floor is that redoing the flooring is expensive. Additionally, there is production and opportunity loss.

Factors that decide the type of flooring?

Civil consultants decide on flooring based on the loading and application. Maintenance is another factor that is considered. Aesthetics and cost-effective floors also play a role in determining the type of floor.

However, the durability depends on the sub-base. A quality sub-base is needed to optimize the operational efficiency of the floor.

Cracks are the most common defects in flooring. Cracks happen due to shrinkage and interaction between the slab and the ground.

The code for flooring is IS 2571 (1970): Code of practice for laying in-situ cement concrete

Civil consultants for industrial projects must study the project requirements and design the floor accordingly.
