Is Anti-Termite Treatment a Must for Industries

What is the meaning of termites?

Termites are a group of insects that cause damage to buildings, furniture, electrical fixtures, etc. Termites are also called as white ants. Anti-termites are necessary for preventing property damage. Civil consultants should ensure that the civil tender includes anti-termite treatment. Termites can damage soil, masonry, wood, and electrical fixtures and thus affect the entire building.

At what stage is anti-termite treatment done?

Anti-termite treatment is recommended during the construction stage by providing a chemical barrier. The code IS 6313 provides guidelines for anti-termite measures. The best Anti-termite treatment is creating a preventive chemical barrier. However, anti-termite treatment can be at many stages. The stages are as follows:

  1. Pre-construction stage
  2. Post-construction stage

Dosage

The dosage and application of the anti-termite treatment are important factors in the efficacy of the treatment. The civil design consultants ensure that the dosage and process of application are as per the codes.

Precautions during Anti-termite treatment

The anti-termite treatment involves creating a chemical barrier, meaning the applicant must handle chemicals. Some common incidents are absorption of the chemical through the skin or inhalation of vapour. The civil tender should mention taking precautions like:

  1. Keeping the chemical in safe and closed storage
  2. Using gloves and avoiding direct contact
  3. Using protective clothing
  4. Washing hands properly after application.
  5. Not disposing of the chemicals and contaminating wells or other water bodies.

In case of incidents due to chemical absorption, the following steps have to be taken:

  1. Remove clothing and wash the skin with soap and water.
  2. If the chemical has touched the eyes, flush the eyes with a lot of water, and the affected person should seek medical attention.
  3. The remedial action in case of poisoning would be to follow the manufacturer's instructions.

In conclusion, anti-termite treatment is best if applied as a preventive. Civil consultants should add the anti-termite in the tender.
